What was a subdued race for city council in north Phoenix has turned bitter as the candidates trade barbs and negative ads land in voters’ mailboxes as Election Day gets closer.
Four candidates are vying for the council seat in District 3, which is home to more than 180,000 residents in Sunnyslope, Moon Valley and parts of northeast Phoenix. The city is holding a special election after former Councilman Bill Gates resigned the seat to run for the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.
