Construction jobs grow in Arizona

Arizona construction was up by 400 jobs. Year-over-year construction has added 10,500 jobs, for a statewide total of 139,600.

The construction sector features three major segments: buildings, heavy, and specialty trades. There are currently 27,400 in buildings, up 400 from September and up 3,400 from last September. Heavy construction dropped 100 for the month, a decrease of 100 over the year. Specialty trades was at 96,200, which is up 100 for the month and up 7,200 since last year.

Construction jobs in the Phoenix Metro Area (Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale) increased by 500 over the month, for a total of 109,900. The October 2015 number was 100,000.

Metro Tucson remained steady month-to-month with 14,300.

Yuma, Flagstaff, Prescott, Lake Havasu City-Kingman, and Sierra Vista-Douglas combine construction and natural resources jobs in reporting their job sector totals. Yuma held steady at 2,400. Flagstaff increased 100 to 2,300. Prescott was unchanged with 4,800; Lake Havasu-Kingman gained 100, up to 2,400. Sierra Vista-Douglas held steady at 1,200.
