Finished parking lots and $14.1 million — that’s what the Glendale City Council will consider awarding the Arizona Cardinals and its stadium owner at a special meeting Monday to officially terminate a four-year legal feud with the football franchise.
Glendale is required to provide 11,000 parking spaces for NFL games and other events at University of Phoenix Stadium, 6,000 of which must be near Westgate Entertainment District, according to the city’s 2003 contract with the Cardinals and the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority, which owns and controls the stadium.
But when Glendale allowed the development of Tanger Outlets mall and a 2005 condominium project, about 5,100 parking spaces near the stadium were eliminated.
