Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane appears headed for a third, and final, four-year term as Scottsdale mayor, while the race to fill three other City Council seats saw all three incumbents in the lead, according to unofficial vote tallies released Tuesday night.
Lane led by a wide margin in a hotly contested bid for re-election after facing a challenge from former Councilman Bob Littlefield, an outspoken critic of the council’s policies on urban development and the Desert Discovery Center. Lane ran on a pro-business platform, touting the city’s post-recession economic recovery.
Littlefield apologized to supporters in a statement posted on Facebook Tuesday night, saying he “could not overcome” Lane’s advantage in campaign fundraising.
