Lucid announces partnership with Samsung SDI

Lucid Motors is partnering with Samsung SDI to produce an “energy dense” battery for its electric cars.

The California-based company announced this week that Samsung SDI will be a major supplier of lithium-ion cells for the first model of Lucid vehicles. Lucid Motors is planning to break ground on a manufacturing plant in Casa Grande within the next year.

The two companies have reportedly been collaborating on cylindrical cells that exceed performance standards in energy density, power and safety.

Albert Liu, Lucid’s director of battery technology, stated in a press release that Samsung SDI has been developing a cell chemistry satisfactory to Lucid’s standards.
