With the legal entanglements surrounding the Surprise downtown parcel resolved, the long-debated future of the land surrounding the Civic Center is slowly transforming from idea to proposal.
A decent-sized chunk was to be unveiled during the Thursday Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, but the commission tabled larger and more surprising of two downtown projects on the agenda. Planners passed a smaller retail-based site plan during the meeting.
The commission was to hear a preliminary plat for Mattamy at Surprise Center, a 56.4-acre housing development west of Litchfield Road and north of Statler Boulevard at the entry to the Civic Center and curves around toward the main city parking garage.
