The CEO who oversees the “Netflix of China” has ties to two electric car startups — one of which plans to build an assembly plant in Casa Grande.
Jia Yueting founded his internet technology company, known as LeEco, 12 years ago and has built it up into a media empire, streaming film and television content for Chinese viewers.
The CEO is now dabbling in the electric car business, investing capital in multiple projects all racing to put out the next model that can compete with Tesla.
One of those ventures is Lucid Motors, the California-based startup formerly known as Atieva. Numerous media outlets have cited Jia as one of the company’s investors since it was co-founded by a former Tesla executive in 2007.
