Glendale, which has capitalized on its professional sports offerings, wants to make sure there are funds to support its endeavor.
Councilwoman Joyce Clark in a recent workshop raised the need for the city to pursue the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority or AZSTA for money the city is owed for building Camelback Ranch-Glendale and for future state reimbursements in public safety costs for hosting regional sporting events such as the Super Bowl.
“Virtually every city that is participating with AZSTA either will see funding delayed for a considerable number of years or in some cases may not ever see the funding,” Ms. Clark said. “Glendale will not anticipate a payback until 2031 if ever.”
