Lucid Motors has the potential to charge up the Arizona vehicle manufacturing scene from small operations to becoming a big player on the electric car scene.
The Silicon Valley-based automaker wants to drop $700 million in Casa Grande on its first production line for its planned electric vehicle. It would be the main launch point for a car that could fully ramp up production by 2023 and a company that could hire at least 2,000 people.
Pinal County political leaders and economic developers are looking forward to what startup Lucid Motors could mean to that county, the state and the region, if the company can gear up to start production by 2018. It could mean big things for Arizona’s auto supply chain that already produces about $629 million annually.
