The county Board of Supervisors agreed Wednesday to pay as much as $1 million to two law firms to defend it in a lawsuit filed by the team.
The law firms are Phoenix-based Gammage & Burnham, led by prominent land-use attorney Grady Gammage Jr., and Washington, D.C.-based Williams Lopatto PLLC, which has experience in complex civil litigation.
The Diamondbacks sued after a years-long dispute with the county over who must pay for millions of dollars in repairs to Chase Field. The team wants permission from a judge or a jury to break its lease so it can seek a new stadium. The lease requires the team to play at Chase Field until 2028.
