Mesa is seeing “explosive growth” in population and new development as the city — already Arizona’s third-largest and No. 38 in the nation — approaches half a million residents, Mesa Mayor John Giles said Tuesday during his annual State of the City address.
Giles, who was sworn in Jan. 12 to his first full four-year term as mayor, touted Mesa’s growth, economy and diversity in front of hundreds of community leaders at the Mesa Convention Center. He highlighted several new developments expected to bring more jobs and housing to the city, including Apple’s massive data center and the Union Brickyard shopping/dining project at Mesa Riverview.
