For a journalist, watching a news story go viral on the web is kind of like an investor watching a stock split.
While one has a direct financial benefit, the personal rush and satisfaction is the same for both.
That is what happened to us when a story we broke Tuesday about a proposed amusement park in Casa Grande took off. Together the digital team and I watched as the numbers kept rolling higher on Google Analytics as more and more people read and shared the story online and through social media.
When it was all over the numbers shattered our previous record for online traffic during a 24-hour period.
