The Casa Grande City Council received a thorough briefing Monday night on a proposed 1,500-acre recreation resort in Casa Grande.

City planners presented an overview of Dreamport Villages, the project expected to include an amusement park at the Interstate 8 and Interstate 10 junction, in advance of a pending decision to approve a land-use request for the property.

The Casa Grande Planning and Zoning Commission approved the request earlier this month and the matter will soon be reviewed by the council. No action was taken on the matter Monday night, but some council members expressed their support in seeing the project move forward.

Councilman Ralph Varela told PinalCentral he’s optimistic about seeing Dreamport come to fruition. Aside from the new jobs the project could create, the resort would attract the attention of many tourists and help put Casa Grande “on the map.”

This map outlines some of the roadways that may be built as part of the Dreamport Villages project near the junction of Interstates 8 and 10. The 1,500-acre project is expected to include an amusement park, resort hotel, animal exhibit and indoor water park.
