Republican Rep. Anthony Kern recently asked the Legislature’s budget gurus to go through Gov. Doug Ducey’s budget proposal and tally up all the new government positions the governor wants to fund.
Kern was astounded with what they found.

“I’ve already showed it to about 15 conservatives. They want copies,” he said.
The governor is seeking funding for 97 new positions across state government in the coming fiscal year, to the tune of just over $10 million per year.
That’s despite Ducey’s pronouncements about instituting a “hiring freeze” in state government – a policy he implemented just after taking office, and which he said saved the state $21 million last year.
