Flagstaff’s Southside and its high-rise Hub won’t be the only neighborhood getting a makeover.
City planners, using the rationale behind their Transect Zoning ruling in the Hub case, have approved an additional five stories for the new downtown Marriott hotel
“If the Hub, at five stories, is the future of Southside, then 10 stories seems logical for the core downtown,” said Dan “Guy” Fawkes, city planning director. “We have to blow up traditional forms in order to realign development priorities with new infrastructure.”
City Manager Josh Coping said citizen concerns over inadequate road capacity to accommodate the higher density would be addressed with “alternative means of transportation.” He declined further comment, citing too much other paperwork piled up on his desk.
