Arizona voters will get an opportunity to follow the money with a new Website that will launch this fall.
Michelle Reagan, Arizona’s Secretary of State stated, “Right now, you really need to be almost an investigative journalist to follow some of this stuff.
The Website is named See the Money. Reagan tells that the Website is the first of its kind in the country.
“Users who are interested in looking up to see lobbyists and the money that they spend in campaigns,” Reagan says. “And then also the campaigns that are cashing those checks.”
She goes on to say, “This is all public data, however, it’s all on paper right now.”
The office of the Secretary of State has been accumulating this information so that voters can find out where elected officials in Arizona get money for their campaign.
Reagan said, “And putting it on a very, very easy Website where people can navigate.”
The Website allows the user to see what industry, lobbyist, or person gave that money.
“You want to look Michelle Reagan up? You can see everyone who’s contributed to me with the dollar amounts,” she said. In addition, you can see what ever anyone else who has contributed whether it be a person or group.
She continues, “The same is going to be available for political action committees: Where’s the money coming from, where’s the money going, [and] what’s it being spent on? And then also for those independent expenditure groups.”
This information should not be hard for voters to find, Reagan said.
“We want the person on the See the Money website to be able to not have to know where to go to get all these different pieces,” she stated. “It’s going to come through one portal.”
