The project to widen Interstate 10 from two lanes to three lanes near Picacho is now a top priority in the state’s updated five-year transportation plan.

A number of I-10 improvement projects are included in the plan and have been accelerated. Widening the freeway between Casa Grade and Chandler is not one of them.

On Friday, the State Transportation Board approved an annual update to ADOT’s Five-Year Transportation Facilities Construction Program. This followed a three-month comment period allowing the public and agencies to provide feedback.

“Connectivity and reliability are crucial for an ever-expanding state highway system like Arizona’s, especially as the population continues to grow and businesses choose to relocate here,” ADOT Director John Halikowski said in a press release.
