A new state law makes it easier for San Tan Valley residents to vote on whether they want to form a city government, and about 40 supporters are ready to hit the ground running.
But a vote isn’t likely to happen until November 2018 at the earliest, and incorporation advocates are hesitant to do much until the law actually takes effect Aug. 9, according to Tisha Castillo, a local businesswoman and longtime supporter of San Tan Valley’s right to vote on the issue.
Bills passed by the Arizona Legislature don’t typically become law until 90 days after the end of the session, unless passed with an emergency clause.
