Zone change near Casa Grande subdivision prompts outcry

Fears of lowered property values and increased crime brought dozens of people concerned about a zone change Thursday night.

What was a seemingly innocuous zone change for a vacant lot from commercial to multifamily residential prompted outcry from residents of the nearby Avalon subdivision. Residents spoke of lowered property values and increased crime from what they believed would be an apartment complex.

The vacant land, located at Val Vista Boulevard and Scott Road, is owned by Gino Tarantini of Scottsdale. While the zone change from commercial to multifamily residential could someday allow for any number of multifamily dwellings, Tarantini has no plans to immediately build any projects.
