Casa Grande council kills rezoning that would allow apartments

CASA GRANDE — A split City Council vote means “no” for a proposed zone change.

The Casa Grande City Council voted 3-3 Monday on a proposed zone change for the southeast corner of Val Vista Boulevard and Scott Road. The change would have been from a planned-area development to multifamily residential and would have given the owner an opportunity to build any number of multifamily dwellings on the site.

But councilors Matt Herman, Dick Powell and Ralph Varela said there was too much of a chance that an apartment building would have an adverse impact on the existing and future neighborhoods that they just couldn’t support the change.
