Since its conception, one of the city of Maricopa’s main focuses has been population growth. That concern continues today as city officials strive to create a robust economy without the numbers to support it.
“It’s one of the variables that determines the amount of state sales tax that you will receive as a jurisdiction, in our case as a city,” said Maricopa City Manager Gregory Rose. “That’s why the population number is so important.”
Rose said that when it comes to the amount of sales tax a city will receive, it is compared to other cities in that county. If a city grows faster than other cities, it receives more sales tax revenue, and it will receive less if it grows at a slower rate.
