Video published of test run for ‘Hyperloop’ high-speed transit system

A YouTube video was published that shows a test run of Elon Musk’s “Hyperloop” high-speed rail system.

The Hyperloop was proposed by Musk, the Tesla Motors co-founder, to transport “pods” of people through a tube at high speeds, the AP wrote last month.

A separate video on the Hyperloop One YouTube page explains that the track uses a magnetic field to pull the train car down the track, and the car also floats above the track using magnetic levitation. Along the way, the car faces almost no wind resistance because a series of vacuum pumps pull the air out of the tunnel.

“This effectively creates our own sky inside the tube, as if you were quietly flying 200,000 feet above sea level,” a narrator in that video said. “This reduces drag so only the smallest amount of electricity is needed to reach extraordinary speeds.”

The explanation video also states that Hyperloop travels at speeds up to 670 miles per hour. At that speed, Hyperloop could theoretically take you from Los Angeles to San Francisco in about 30 minutes.
