Five finalists, narrowed from a pool of 33 applicants, are vying for a seat on the Mesa City Council after a council member was ousted for drinking and driving.
The council unanimously voted to remove first-term Councilman Ryan Winkle in August after he pleaded guilty to a DUI in Tempe.
Council members will conduct interviews publicly and make an appointment on Sept. 28. The appointee will serve until next August’s primary election.
