Under construction: Here are the top home builders in Phoenix

Home builder D.R. Horton showed a big increase in its confidence for the Phoenix-area home market this year, jumping several spots in the rankings to claim No. 1 when the Phoenix Business Journal today published the 2017 edition of its annual Home Builders list.

The list is ranked by housing starts in 2016. D.R. Horton (NYSE: DHI), ranked seventh on last year’s list, but had 1,545 starts last year to rank No. 1. Meritage Homes Corp. (NYSE: MTH) was second on the list with 1,276 starts. Third on the list, with 1,148 starts, was Taylor Morrison (NYSE: TMHC).
