Pinal County voters soon will be getting in the mail ballots for a special all-mail November election. The half-cent sales tax increase that is proposed deserves serious consideration, as it would do much to improve transportation throughout the county over the next 20 years.
We have in the past advocated an increase in the gasoline tax because funding for building roads is in such short supply. But there is no talk of that happening, and the sales tax is a good option that local residents can control. It would apply to visitors to the county who use roads, and there is a $10,000 limit that minimizes the effect on major purchases.
