Even lizards can’t stop South Mountain Freeway, ADOT says

Some lizards living around Pecos Road apparently won’t have to wait for a federal appeals court ruling on efforts to stop the South Mountain Freeway.

The Arizona Department of Transportation hunted down chuckwallas and gave them new homes.

Dozens of the reptiles, including orange-tailed males that ADOT called unique to the South Mountain Preserve, were relocated not far from their home but out of the freeway path.
