South Tucson mayor, council vote to delay their recalls

South Tucson City Hall

The South Tucson City Council voted Tuesday night on the date of their own recall election. Mayor Ildefonzo Green and Council members Rufino Cantu, Robert Larribas and Carlos Romo ignored the obvious conflict of interest and voted for a delayed date in March 2018.

The Council had cancelled a meeting scheduled for September 11, effectively eliminating the chance for a spot on a November 2017 ballot.

Green, Cantu, Larribas and Romo could have opted to resign and spare the nearly broke city the cost of a recall election. Tuesday’s vote delays what many believe will be certain recall.

Residents are considering filing a complaint with the appropriate authorities regarding the apparent and real conflict of interest involved in Tuesday’s vote.
