Mi-Ai Parrish, president and publisher of The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com, said in a column published Friday that state Rep. Don Shooter made a sexually inappropriate comment to her.
Parrish said she and an attorney met with Shooter at the Arizona Capitol in March 2016 to discuss an issue affecting local newspapers. During the meeting, she said, Shooter talked about how he’s an independent thinker and has done everything on his “bucket list,” except one thing.
When Parrish asked Shooter what he hadn’t done on his list, she wrote he responded: “Those Asian twins in Mexico.”
Parrish is Korean-American.
“Don Shooter made a demeaning, sexual and acial comment to me in his office, in front of my attorney,” Parrish wrote. “That’s not right. And that’s the truth.”
