South Carolina builders cite shortage of trade workers

Much like home builders nationwide, builders in Spartanburg, S.C. say they’ve seen a shortage of skilled labor this cycle after the housing slowdown forced many people to change careers, reports Bob Montgomery, a staffer for GoUpstate.

Longtime builder Manning Lynch adds that a pool of younger trade workers has not been sufficient to replace those who have retired. Plus, the real estate market has picked up in recent years, making it harder for builders to keep up.
