Rep. Mark Finchem is proposing legislation that will repeal the Transaction Privilege Tax on coal. Finchem has called into question the legality of the tax.
According to Finchem, for many years the State of Arizona has relied upon the sale of Kayenta Mine coal, Transaction Privilege Tax, also known as TPT. The tax has been passed on to SRP energy consumers, including the Central Arizona Project (CAP), which moves water down-state to Pinal and Pima County agricultural and urban end users.
