City of Avondale News
The City of Avondale has launched NextRequest, a new and open online system for processing public records requests. With this new system, the public will now be able to track and access the status of their Public Records Requests online.
The portal, available at https://avondaleaz.nextrequest.com or www.avondaleaz.gov/cityclerk , gives the public insight into requests for public records submitted to City of Avondale and puts a searchable archive of responsive documents at the public’s fingertips.
On average, the City receives approximately 350 requests for public records each year. Akin to the “release to one, release to all” policy being piloted for Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request at the federal level, this portal will allow the public to access these requests as well as the information and documents provided in response to the requests. This ensures that once a government document has been made public once, anyone will have access to it.
“The City of Avondale’s dedication and commitment to transparency is evident in the fact that we are taking the steps to continually improve our process for the releasing of records,” said Linda Mendenhall, City of Avondale Records Administrator.
NextRequest makes public records easier for governments to provide and the public to access. Founded in 2015 by three former Code for America fellows, NextRequest is used by governments throughout the U.S. In the City of Avondale, records retention and public records request process is administered by the City Clerk’s Department.
