Nicholas Sarwark, chairman of the National Libertarian Party, wants to be the next mayor of Phoenix.
Sarwark, 38, filed paperwork to run for the city’s top office in December, joining a growing pool of candidates competing to succeed Mayor Greg Stanton.
The Phoenix native spent nearly 20 years in Washington, D.C. and Denver where he studied law and practiced as a public defender. In 2014, he moved back to the Valley to take over the family business, Sarwark Consolidated Auto Sales — the oldest independent auto dealership in Phoenix.
Sarwark said he’s seen a lack of leadership on the Phoenix City Council and an unwillingness to make tough decisions that are necessary to repair the city’s fragile financial state, which led to his decision to run for mayor.
