Phoenix looks to redevelop big Del Rio parcel

Chris Mackay hopes what used to be one man’s trash will become another’s treasure.

Mackay is community and economic development director for the city of Phoenix and one of the leads in the city’s effort to redevelop a 156-acre property that previously was the Del Rio landfill.

The south Phoenix landfill closed in the 1980s and the parcel includes park areas. The land sits on the south bank of the Rio Salado (i.e. Salt River) near Seventh Street and north of Broadway Road.
