The city became a little more land rich and cash poor following Monday’s City Council meeting.
The council voted to approve the purchase of 144 acres of vacant desert land adjacent to Ed Hooper Rodeo Park for $1.8 million.
The vote was unanimous despite several council members stating they knew taxpayers would wonder why such a large purchase was being made at a time when the city — at least on the surface — appears to be looking to take a hit from sales tax collections.
