Mobile home park near Scottsdale on tribal land faces closure after 50 years. “[O]fficials with the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Community told The Arizona Republic they do not intend to renew the [lease allowing the resort to operate on the tribal land] once it expires in 2019 … As a result, the residents will be forced to find another place to live.” As for “future development” of the 40 acres along 92nd Street, just south of McDowell and east of the 101? Tribal officials are “leaving their options open.” http://bit.ly/2tlyGUN

Home features buyers consider essential. A front porch? Garage storage? A walk-in closet? “A recent [NAHB] poll asked prospective first-time and second-time+ home buyers which features they considered essential in their next home.” The results in Eye On Housing. (BTW, we conducted our own poll here at Dealmaker HQ, asking the crack staff in our Snark Dept. what THEY think are essential home features. The No. 1 response was “walls” followed by “electrical outlets,” “windows” then “some sort of floor.”) http://bit.ly/2H8xC92

How could import tariffs affect housing? NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun; LBM Journal editor and publisher, Rick Schumacher; and economists surveyed by the University of Chicago — all hold dim views on the proposed tariffs. What about Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross? He expressed himself on CNBC last week, using “a can of Campbell Soup.” His views on the matter?  Let’s just say that he thinks the proposed tariffs are “Mmm Mmm Good.” In DSNews. http://bit.ly/2tgMDDG

Pollack: Don’t panic… yet. Some unsettling words from The Monday Morning Quarterback in reference to “President Trump throwing out what hopefully will be no more than a trial balloon related to increasing tariffs on steel and aluminum.” And if “this turns out to be more than a trial balloon”? The road to better roads. “A coalition of Republicans and Democrats are pushing legislation that would create a new highway safety fee for [Arizona] motorists. Ostensibly, the fee [‘about $18 for all types of vehicles’] would pay for highway patrol operations. But, in a roundabout way, the fee is really about paying for road construction and repairs.” AZCentral. http://bit.ly/2FxQb9c

Football’s brain injury crisis lands in family court. With scientific studies indicating a link between “repeated blows to the head” and “long-term brain damage” in football players, “parents’ concerns are surfacing in legal battles between divorced couples, leading to an increase in fights over whether to amend custody orders to prevent their children from playing the game.” In the New York Timeshttp://bit.ly/2FjTLo4

‘Wall Street Journal’ goes in-depth on Sinema. “Can a onetime Nader-supporting ‘bomb thrower’ win Arizona’s Senate seat? Democrats hope so. Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, the likely nominee is trying to transform herself into a conservative Democrat by being a semi-reliable supporter of the president.” (Paywall). http://bit.ly/2D5Lmid

High court sends Texas v New Mexico, Colorado water case to arbitration. “The U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously Monday that the federal government can intervene in a water case pitting Texas against New Mexico and Colorado, meaning the case will be sent back to a ‘special master’ to arbitrate the dispute… The complicated case could set a standard for the role the federal government will play in settling water rights disputes between states in the years ahead.” Albuquerque Journalhttp://bit.ly/2tluEvQ
