Wickenburg Town Council “pushed the pause button” on creation of a downtown redevelopment area Monday night in response to public comments offered over the past couple of weeks.
For several months, town staff have been working with architectural design firm The Phoenix-New York Company to establish boundaries for a downtown redevelopment area (RDA) and assess properties for blight. The goal was to have council designate a specific part of town and recognize its blighted areas so that under state statute some grant monies could become available for improvements. Property owners and downtown business managers packed council chambers during public hearings, commenting on the idea and asking many questions. Council considered passing the RDA during its Feb. 20 meeting, but instead scheduled another information session and town hall meeting last week.
