Business owners oppose south central light-rail extension; Phoenix moves ahead anyway

Phoenix leaders have touted the planned light-rail extension into south Phoenix as an essential and overdue service that will connect the diverse community to employment and education opportunities in downtown and beyond.

But in the past few weeks, more than 3,000 south Phoenix business owners, residents and customers signed a petition saying they don’t want the light rail anymore.
