Phoenix metro ranked as the eighth most ozone-polluted area in the country

Air quality is improving in Pinal County, but it still has a ways to go before it meets standards, according to a recent report released by the American Lung Association.
In its State of the Air report, which examines air quality statistics from 2014 to 2016, ALA found that the pollution levels across the state are improving, and every county received a passing grade for year-round particle levels. That included Pinal County.
However, the group still gave two counties — Pinal and neighboring Maricopa — an “F” both for having too many days when air particle levels exceeded the point where the air could be deemed unhealthy and for having too many days when ozone levels reached an unhealthy status. Gila and Yuma counties also flunked on their ozone days.
