It was literally all about the birds and the bees at the Sedona Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.
The commission spent 90 minutes discussing a topic that was brought up in April during an update on the Land Development Code — the owning of chickens and bees in city limits. While a vote won’t take place until the commission’s next meeting Tuesday, June 5, or later the general consensus among its members on Tuesday, May 15 was that they are in favor of allowing both, but with regulations. In the April 3 work session, Senior Planner Mike Raber said the commission heard from a number of residents regarding allowing chickens, and to a lesser extent, bees. The commission requested that staff provide more information regarding the beekeeping issue.
