Canadians come to Pinal County not only to take advantage of the warm winter weather, but a large contingent also comes for the calf roping.
About 450 Canadians participated in the Maple Leaf Classic, a team roping event held Thursday during Cowboys Days & O’Odham Tash. Participants ranged in age from the very young to the not-so-young, albeit still able to rope and ride.
Jenessa McNichol, from Alberta, was attending the Maple Leaf Classic with her son Clay, 13. It’s the first year the McNichols have attended the Maple Leaf Classic and also their first year in Pinal County.
