Replacement for Pinal’s historic Kelvin Bridge was a 20-year effort

The new Kelvin Bridge

Florence Reminder & Blade Tribune

A replacement for a historic bridge in eastern Pinal County is nearing completion.

The Kelvin Bridge is located in a remote desert area between State Route 79 in Florence and State Route 177 in Kearny. It is located on the partially paved Florence-Kelvin Highway.

Built in 1916, the original bridge consists of one lane and spans the Gila River. The county project is replacing that bridge with a two-lane overpass that crosses the Gila River along with the adjacent ASARCO-Copper Basin Railway. The historic bridge will now be used solely for pedestrians and those on horseback.
