Pinal County’s Regional Transportation Authority is moving forward with defending a lawsuit, the entity’s board heard Wednesday.
Andy Smith, who oversees the RTA for Pinal County, said attorneys have filed a rebuttal to the lawsuit brought against the RTA by the Goldwater Institute. The institute is challenging the new voter-approved half-cent sales tax on several grounds, including on a claim that the informational materials before the election were misleading.
The board also welcomed Tina Dugan, a resident of Maricopa, to serve as the chair of the citizens technical advisory committee. Maricopa Mayor Christian Price said, “Tina has an acute mind for questioning.”
He added Dugan will want to know “why we do things” and said she was nominated as the chair because she would work to keep elected officials accountable.
