Preliminary election results Tuesday show Surprise voters green-lighting the city’s request to purchase a small, private water company to increase the growing city’s share of Colorado River water.

The early results show the request passing by a large margin.

Surprise held a mail-in election with ballots sent to all registered voters in the city.

State law requires voter approval before a city can purchase a utility company.
