Documents shed more light on investigation into alleged sexual misconduct by judge

Police documents show the woman accusing a Pinal County judge of sexual misconduct may have disclosed the conduct to a church official years before police started investigating.

Records recently released by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office show how the agency investigated claims made against Judge Steven Fuller late last year. Pima County prosecutors eventually decided not to file criminal charges.

In September, an attorney for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints informed the Mesa Police Department that a young woman had recently told a church bishop she had allegedly been abused by Fuller since she was 13.

The case was transferred to Pima County in order to avoid a conflict of interest and during the investigation, that Sheriff’s Office interviewed another church official about something the woman reportedly had told him a couple of years prior.
