Suicide: Let’s keep talking

The suicides this month of CNN’s Anthony Bourdain and designer Kate Spade were surprising to say the least, but compared to my experiences with one’s taking of one’s own life, were not personally saddening.

I’ve painfully lost six friends and family members to suicide:

John Zell — high school classmate and medical student

David Sanchez — fellow member of high school wrestling team

Dr. Richard Hunter– my teen years doctor

Sam Ishmael — friend and Casa Grande attorney

Grandson

Granddaughter — attempted

Let’s keep talking.
