Four-story, 249-unit apartment complex plan in NE Gilbert draws ire from residents. “The residents [‘around Higley and Baseline’] are wrestling with developers over a use permit for a multifamily property complex in a commercial zoning district. Plans revised for apartment project next to iconic Tucson monastery.“The developer of the Benedictine Monastery site has agreed to lower the height of the tallest proposed apartment buildings…” Arizona Daily Star reports, however, that the “gesture may not be enough for some who want the entire site — orchards, walking paths and quiet spaces — spared from development…” http://bit.ly/2kSznOq

Mesa City Council votes to authorize downtown ASU campus. The council voted 5-2 Monday night in favor of the resolution to authorize a downtown campus, KTAR reports. Mesa Mayor John Giles on the decision to move forward with the “multi-story,” “118,000-square-foot facility”: “This is an opportunity that our city gets only rarely and it’s an opportunity to develop high-wage jobs and to give a shot in the arm to our economy…” http://bit.ly/2sOwYrN
