The Zackster sharp in ‘stumbling’ victory over Padres

On Friday afternoon, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo mused about his club’s inconsistent offense, likening it to two different teams. There’s the one that averaged close to five runs per game for most of April and June. Then there’s the one from May, a version that Lovullo described as “stumbling a little bit,” a look the Diamondbacks have again begun to resemble in the past week.
It was hard to say which edition showed up on Friday evening, but the important thing, as far as the Diamondbacks are concerned, is that it didn’t really matter. Their 3-1 victory over the San Diego Padres gave them their second win in eight games on the homestand and allowed them to move back in front of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who had pulled even with them in the National League West the previous day.
