Indicted water utility owner George Johnson is now being investigated by the Arizona Attorney General’s Office for allegedly threatening the Florence town manager, Brent Billingsley, reports Arizona Capitol Times.

Billingsley filed a report with the Florence Police Department on June 8 after Johnson made a “serious threat” against him during a brief phone call that day.

Ben Bitter, the town’s public information officer, refused for a second time to release the report to the Arizona Capitol Times, saying the investigation has been turned over to the attorney general to avoid “any perception of a conflict of interest with our own department handling a complaint with our town manager.”

Johnson is currently on trial in federal court for unrelated allegations of conspiring to bribe Gary Pierce, who formerly served on the Arizona Corporation Commission, and his wife, Sherry Pierce.
