Arizona Diamondbacks’ defensive miscues spoil Robbie Ray’s strong outing in loss to the Chicago Cubs

Diamondbacks were done in on Wednesday by the one thing that has kept them afloat while other areas have failed them: their defense.

It cost left-hander Robbie Ray a win after one of his most impressive performances this season.

Left-handed pitcher T.J. McFarland and shortstop Nick Ahmed combined for two errors in the eighth inning as the Cubs scraped across the go-ahead run in a 2-1 victory in the third of a four-game set.

BOX SCORE: Cubs 2, Diamondbacks 1

The Diamondbacks, who entered the game riding a three-game win streak, never led in the game. The Cubs’ game-winning rally in the eighth inning came without the ball leaving the infield.
