U.S. Senate hopeful Kyrsten Sinema joined with House Republicans on Wednesday to register her support for officers and staffers with the embattled Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
The Arizona Democrat voted with nearly every Republican to pass a resolution effectively backing ICE at a time when many in her party have advocated abolishing the agency that has carried out President Donald Trump’s immigration-enforcement policies.

Rep. Tom O’Halleran, D-Arizona, who holds a seat where voters supported Trump two years ago, also voted for the resolution, which carries symbolic value but does little to tamp down the agency’s controversies. Democrats in the Senate blocked that chamber from passing the resolution without dissent.
